Even way down here in Florida, we have been so horrified by the events of September 11, and subsequently, so touched by the nations response. These words just came to me a few days after the tragedy:

The lady of the harbor guards the city day and night

But when the horror struck, she shed a tear at morning’s light.

For the symbols of the city once so tall, so proud, so strong

Were struck in one brief instant by an act of war – so wrong.

And with them went our finest, our country’s best and brightest

Our colleagues, friends and neighbors – to them our hearts belong.

A gray day like no other found brother helping brother.

A grief without an end, a nation’s spirit to defend.

The dust has not yet settled on this day etched in our soul.

The battle’s just beginning while we sadly take our toll.

For with the many losses, comes something we all gain.

And our country is united as we share each other’s pain.

We shall rise above the rubble and continue our brave story

We shall honor those who lived and died – to them goes all our glory.
