CARPENTERS

I just found out that I did, after all, know someone in the World Trade Center. After seeing his photo on your website I knew it was him. And seeing the words "carpenter confirmed dead" just didn't make sense , why would a carpenter be confirmed dead? It was not ordinary and I then wrote a poem which I attach here. I am not sure if that is the right thing to do but I did it anyway.

Carpenters shouldn’t die
They should put up sheet rock
And say "get me a beer and a slice"
They should say "get outta here"
And "hey Norton, HEY NORTON!"
And "get me a diet coke and a number 2"

Carpenters shouldn’t die
They should walk around
with hammers hanging
From their belts
and tin metal in their hands
in case Teddy the Greek comes and catches them kidding around
And says
"no more kidding around, how mannie times I gotta tell you,
no more kidding around".

Carpenters shouldn’t die
They should walk by
in their well worn jeans
through offices of perfumed yuppie ladies.
And neat yuppie gents should look on and suspect that perfumed ladies like
Carpenters in well worn jeans. And they should be right.

And Carpenters shouldn’t die.
