EMPTY SKYLINE
Hi Alex
I hope this e-mail finds you well. I hope you got my
e-mail about all the amazing things that have happened to me since I wrote
the poem, "There's an Angel Watching Over Us".
Once again I thank you so much for posting the poem. It really has changed my
life.
I wrote another poem I hope you can post on your website. I wrote it last night,
as I was in Lower Manhattan yesterday, and I walked across the Brooklyn Bridge,
and it inspired to write "Empty Skyline".
I dedicate this poem to the city I love: New York.
Here it is:
By John Quinn
I finished work early today
On a bright clear day
My heart led me
Straight down Park Row
But my brain
Turned my body north
Away from St. Paul's
I found myself
On the way to The Bridge
Beyond the Empty Skyline
Heavy traffic moves
Speeding out of the city
Tourists with cameras
And out-of-town smiles
Pass me by
Bicycles on my left
Race past my slow trot
I'd better stay to the right
Of the yellow line
I look back and glance
Over my right shoulder
All I can see
Is an Empty Skyline
As I approach
The center span
I look for that exact spot
Where I was last November
And the place I made
The Promise
I stop at a bench
And renew My Vow
I know Our Sweetie's listening
My heart now leads me
Off The Bridge
I look back again
Over my right shoulder
Once again all I can see
Is an Empty Skyline
I land on the Promenade
In the Borough of Churches
Things are so different
Since I was here
Back last May
All kinds of people
Milling about
In the late day sunshine
A faded purple rose
Catches my eye
Stuck in the black iron fence
Other broken hearts
Have come here before me
They also saw
Exactly what I see now
As I turn away
And leave the Promenade
And I look back
Over my right shoulder
All I will ever see there
Across the East River
For the rest of my life
Will be an Empty Skyline.
Thank you so much for everything Alex. I wish you continued success with your wonderful website. All The best,
