ANGELS AND MIRACLES

A news flash, a tragedy

All life is on hold

We wait for news, for this story to unfold

Is he there, in the city or was that last week,

A quick call and an email

All is OK.  “Oh my GOD”, tears flow,

As the building gives way

Hope drops, hearts sink and who could survive

This tragedy unfolding in from of my eyes.

Time comes and it goes, no word as hope leaves

So I go down there, to feel and to grieve.

Pictures plastered on walls, dirt and debris abound,

Steel workers, firemen and others surround,

Working to free those that may never be found.

Kind words from a stranger to console my grief,

Bring a brake to my plummet and a little relief.

For the workers, the firemen and the policemen so brave,

I pray for you, that what you’ve seen, will not remain.

Bless your life, hug your children, greet those that you see,

They are angels, who bring miracles to you and to me.

"THE UNACCOUNTED FOR"

It’s a phrase that remains in my mind, although I’ve heard it before.
A phrase associated with loss and tragedy, "the unaccounted for".

As we watch, again and again, the media conveys this horror;
Watching our countrymen and loved ones, "the unaccounted for".
We cry for memories that will never come, for loved ones lost forevermore,
All else is put aside, as we comfort those who loved, "the unaccounted for".

In our last moments, a quick call to say, "Please don’t worry, it will be OK";
The phone goes silent, then a moment later, the building gives way.
Hearts sink, eyes tear and we can only cry, no – take me, please don’t take her today;
Sorrow turns to emptiness and emptiness to night, please bring back "the unaccounted for".

The pain of loss settles in, and then some news, another is found alive;
"maybe that’s her" you think, maybe they found "the unaccounted for".
The phone rings and all is silent, a million thoughts run through my mind;
Tears begin to flow, as another friend is saved from, "the unaccounted for".

How proud they would be, of this city’s people and all Americans, unified in soul;
I can feel the warmth of their smiles, in their heavens, the resting place of "the unaccounted for".
Let us remember and never forget, the unity and freedom that we feel on this day;
And let us remember, the giver of this gift, our friends and loved ones, "the unaccounted for".
