9-11-01
By Kristen L. DeCarbo
Who could imagine that on
9-11-01
The event would change an entire nation
Stronger than gunfire, in the twin towers, two planes collide
Creating an enormous bomb
Sending out shock to everyone
For every man, woman and child
The streets of New York grew chillingly wild
The firefighters, police and rescue teams ran to the scene of the crime
Following every sigh, scream and whine
In search for lives that were lost in debris
With hope to return them safe to family
The World Trade Center Towers-so tall, now reduced to dust
Once believed to be a safe nation
In God we trust
Terrorists in shadows we learn create this tragedy
Left fear and confusion throughout New York City
No longer were we secure as we all once believed to be
We had to all bond together like the people of NYC
If I live to be an old lady, I will never forget this attack
Now a vivid memory that we shudder to look back
So many people perish in the blaze
Their friends and family left in a daze
Some survive with stories hard to believe
Some told to stay while others chose to leave
The running, the screaming, for their lives to be spared
Soon we would learn how many volunteers cared
The Red Cross, the community, the victims who survived
The faces of survivors who worked beyond tired
The families and friends who learned loved ones expired
Our nation, our country will never be the same
New York City, the Pentagon, each victim on each plane
We will never forget the importance of our colors Red, White, and Blue
And the question we asked ourselves-What can we do?
Blood and money donated immediately
To this worthy cause to create unity
We are all so proud to be Americans in the USA
And it doesn't matter what religion we are -we all continue to pray
For we now shout! Let us finish what has begun!
For those of us still living after 9-11-01 !
